New Zealand Swiss Clock hit by Millenium Bug - see the Register story. It's kidna funny - the online clock says that it's Jan 1, 19100. Wow!

Windows2000 users rejoice: Check out Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows. It has information about the new and upcoming versions of Windows. The FAQ's are excellent as well!

This C|Net News story has me baffled. "Many customers have been complaining that Compaq's Presario 5800 and 5900 models have been freezing up." Compaq says that this is due in-part to how Windows 98 (SE) and Windows 95 allocate limited resources (memory).

My take: Tell me something I didn't know - too much crap at boot-up.

Unfortunately, PC makers are paid by 3rd party companies to include their software on PCs they ship, so the end-user is out-of-luck. It's funny that this article names Compaq - A while back, afriend of mine contacted Compaq support about obtaining a Windows 98 disc in order to do a clean install, but was basically told "tough luck." Compaq's come with what's called an "image disc" or "rescue disc" - that basically restores the computer to the state that it shipped, all those annoying 3rd party programs and all.

Made minor fixes to the General Information page . I know - I'm procrastinating on fixing or adding anything important...

12/28/99 - Tuesday 20:30

Update on the Linux Programmer who paid to renew Microsoft's Passport.com renewal fee (see below): In this CNet News story they report that microsoft is "Extremely grateful" to Michael Chaney.

12/28/99 - Tuesday 15:12

photo I borrowed from rockfordfosgate.comI'm selling a car-stereo amplifier on eBay: It's a Rockford-Fosgate Punch G600A4 - BRAND NEW! Still in-box! It normally sells for $499, I'm selling for $330 w/ free shipping.

Ebay Listing with all the details.

if you're interested! She's nice!

Here is a Village voice story about a 42 year-old man named Dr. Randell Mills whose theories, if shown correct, would change everything we know about physics. He's riduculed by the establishment, and may turn out to be just a fraud, but who knows? *NOTE: the article's kinda long.

12/27/99 - Monday 12:43

Pay ya' bills - like Microsoft does: See this CNet News story about how a good samaritan (not Sumarian) paid Microsoft's Passport.com (hotmail) NSI renewal fee to get the passport.com site back up so he could check his email. See his personal site, and the receipt.

I'm going to try to fix/update the links and files sections hopefully this week, before school starts. I don't know why I'm even bothering, the world is coming to an end on Friday anyway.

12/27/99 - Monday 02:36

I hope you all had a Merry X-mas (or whatever you celebrate). I know I did!

My work (The Bayside, or just "the side" as we affectionately call it) gave me a bonus this year! It wasn't very much considering how much revenue I help generate, but then if you factor in how much stuff I steal, it all evens out. HA!

AnandTech, Hard OCP and JC's added in links.

PowerStrip and EnergySaver (from EntechTaiwan) added in files.

12/24/99 - Friday 18:37

Merry X-mas all! If you don't celebrate X-mas, have a great whatever it is you celebrate! Look at what my friend Hans dropped off:

It's a 10 pound "QUEEN" BRICK of Ghirardelli chocolate. Ok, who can consume THAT much chocolate? Yeah thanks! I hope he doesn't get mad when break it up and sell the pieces on eBay.

BTW, Sneakers is on USA. If you're a nerd... well... you would own it, so you can watch it any time you want I guess.

12/20/99 - Monday 06:56

Matrix OpenGL screen-saver: I was pretty impressed by this. Jason Giovannelli, the author did a nice job. In-case you want to change the resolution, just open RegEdit and go to: HKCU/software/JSG/Matrix and change the value for resolution to a value 0..5 (0 being 600x480 and 5 being 1600x1200). There's also a Southpark 3D screen-saver, which is the new version of the cartman3D screen-saver, which was pretty cool. I haven't had a chance to try this one yet.

Matrix OpenGL screen-saver: http://www.3dfxmania.com/screensavers/matrix.shtml

Southpark 3D screen-saver: http://www.3dfxmania.com/screensavers/southpark3dspectacular.shtml

Screen-savers are kind-of pointless these days with power management and sleep-mode and all.

12/20/99 - Monday 06:56

New Candycane-style logo: hope you dig it. I know how important it is...

I've patched up the files section so it's a little more in-sync (yeah!) with the rest of the site. Hopefully I'll go through there and actually update it.

This sound clip made me bust-out laughing... It's just not fair: it's so untrue. If people would only leave us alone and let us "innovate™" and "take your money."

12/18/99 - Saturday 21:43

New site for all you <explitive>'s using Windows 98! Yeah! http://www.win98central.com/ Personally, I think they're doing a disservice to the word "central" by having it in their name. I my experience, "central" means sparse, rarely updated web-site with little, if any information of value. They've got a ton of stuff. And they're recommended by Anand. (For those of you who don't know who Anand Lai Shimpi is, he's the net's version of that kid back in school who would remind the teacher that there's supposed to be homework: God bless his little heart).

12/17/99 - Friday 15:39

Cock-a-doodle-doo! EE Times has a story about a product Phillips is developing called "Rooster." From what I get out of the story, it's a "set-top" device that... well go read for yourself... you can download mp3's while you're listening to mp3's while you're burning mp3's while you're watching video or something... basically what I do right now...

CNet News has a story, "Top web sites compromise consumer privacy."

Yuh-huh... and I would argue that compromising your security is a "feature."

12/17/99 - Friday 15:39

WOO HOO! I passed all 3 of my classes this quarter! Drinks are on me tonight, fellas!
This almost makes up for the amplifier I fried Wednesday.

12/15/99 - Wednesday 09:49

After months of delays, Microsoft has released its Windows 2000 operating system to manufacturers. The release is scheduled for February 17, but I think this means it's done. No foolin' - get the lo-down CNet News story.

In other news, FreeI.net is offering "free" internet access - the catch? No catch (yueah, right) - you have to watch an ad banner and fill out a survey... into free access? Go see: freei.net.

If you're into Photoshop, check out this site: http://www.matrixvault.com - Great Photoshop tutorials (including fire!).

And also take a pull of the EyeCandy plug-in for Photoshop: it makes complex effects easy. (You can do the fire without it tho).

I made a new fire-logo: it's dope... It's not really that festive, so I might wait until after the holidays to put it up. Ok, you got me, I can't figure out what's wrong with my FTP and I can't upload a site-wide change like a new logo...

12/14/99 - Tuesday 14:38

I found a pretty cool CD Recorder FAQ: http://www.fadden.com/cdrfaq/. Intelligent answers to just about evey question you could have about CD-R's - explains quite a few "why's" too. I'll put it in my links section too.

John Dvorak has an interesting commentary on... batteries? He suggests that maybe large US Battery manufacturers are not promoting NiMH rechargables for fear of losing disposable battery sales. Read on...

I don't know what's up with my email... I can't get email I send myself, so I'm assuming something's wrong - don't ask me what tho...

If you need to email me, try - I think that one's working and independent of any other problems my email might be having.

The NVidia GeForce256 DDR video cards are now shipping - ask your mommy to buy it for me... er, you. For more info, check out: http://www.3dgpu.com/ or http://www.planetgeforce.com/ for more information.

12/10/99 - Friday 10:54

Email fixed: the mail forwarding was set up incorrectly and I wasn't getting mail sent to info@2e.org. (I wonder who's to blame!?!? oh, me... )

And I just thought no-one loved me!

Victor Chen (from NT Freak) wrote me back (WOW! that was fast!) - Here's the link to the icons: http://9-uses.com/freak/viewpoint/nt/making_nt_fun/gnome.zip

He's also got a new page up about Deskcolor, but TweakCentral viewers are already hip to that piece of software. If you don't already have it: Go get it! And thank Tom Griffith (the author).

Couple things:

1. School's out: let's hope I pass

2. Couple links for ya:

Kinda cool way to overclock your athlon

NT Freak! - it says "making Windows NT fun" but we already know how much fun it is! - eh -ps. I asked this guy to tell me where he got the cool icons at - see above

TClock - By Kazubon - it's Japanese, but you can figure it out... Looks like a pretty cool tweak-tool. (from NT Freak)

JC's - This guy's pretty darn cool - he does (basically) daily updates on the x86 CPU industry - kinda heavy stuff, but anyone with an advanced degree in computer architecture should be able to pick it up...

12/7/99 - Tuesday 04:37

X-Files 2000 CalendarGet your nerd-gifts here. If you know a burgeoning nerd, here's the perfect gift: Star-Trek T-shirts. Seriously tho, if you want an x-files 2000 calendar it's only $7 + 4.95 s/h. Still cheaper than the $13.99 you'll pay anywhere else, if I did my math right.

http://www.ishopper.com/scifizone/

(and I know that if I wait 'til march it'll be 50% off...)

12/5/99 - Sunday 22:17

Check out this story on Slashdot: http://slashdot.org/articles/99/12/05/1050226.shtml - it's about this ISP in UK that is using an abandoned bunker and claiming that it's all secure and bomb-proof and stuff.

http://thebunker.net or http://www.thebunker.net - The site's down. Ha.

I'm in the midst of finals (for the 24th time... I've been in school a while now) but there's some stuff I want to add to the site. I'll try to get around to it this month?

12/3/99 - Friday 17:30

New holiday-color logo - it's really just an excuse for me to put off doing my database homework... ENJOY!

11/30/99 - Wednesday 15:34

This just brings tears to my eyes: Just think: You've got a nice, 21" monitor.... What could you do to ruin it?
Why don't I cram an IMAC in it?!?!
http://www.macaddict.com/cgi-bin/frames.cgi?exclusive/9911/imac21.html

This made me laugh: swiped from slashdot:

from the we're-really-and-truly-not-making-this-up dept. Lycestra writes "CNet has an article stating Windows CE is being renamed. In the spirit of such names as Office, Money, and Explorer, it is being renamed "Windows Powered". I expected something more like 'Poke-Windows'."

Ha ha.
