I want to revamp the site, any ideas?
source: home grown

07/27 - 22:54

OK. A few ground rules:

  1. No smart-ass comments like "try adding some content," Steve!
  2. I don't have any money
  3. I don't have much talent either
  4. I'm lazy, so I'm not going to put a lot of time or effort into this

But what I do have in abundance is love for you guys! Ok, just make "No love" rule 5.

Now if you can come up with some ideas for the site that conform to the above rules, please .

What I'm thinking of is a database driven site (don't worry, I'll just steal someone else's code...), you know... basically a "one-stop-shop" for modifying computers... with a large section on "oops, I done it again" repairing and troubleshooting... etc.

ps - If you're thinkin' pr0n site, I'm two steps ahead of ya...

Oh yeah, no F*in RATPADZZ reviews, sh*t.

New cpu pricing at XBit
source: XBit Labs

07/19 - 22:53

an AMD ath(a)lon processorXBit labs has new pricing on Intel and AMD cpus (processors) also known as Roadmaps. If you're thinking of picking up a new machine soon, it wouldn't hurt to check out what's on tap: might save you a few pennies. AMD cpu prices are also there, just scroll down a bit.
I really like XBit - they have great news and they do good (thorough) reviews too.

ps - I tried Grokster (aka Morpheus, MusicCity and KazaA) - and it sucked much ass. Mp3s with bitrates higher than 128 were simply not available. That was the least of my problems. I have gone back to LimeWire. I hear BearShare isn't bad either.. if you can put up with the ads.

Portable mp3 cassette?
source: Digisette

07/17 - 14:53

duo 64 image courtesy digisetteAlthough not tweak-related, this is still nuts. Digisette has portable mp3 players that fit into standard audio cassette players. So if you have an olde car stereo with only a cassette, now you can play your mp3's in there. fyi - these things are about $230 from BestBuy or CircuitCity.

Speaking of mp3's, CNN is running this article on the FastTrack filesharing network (thnx HardOCP for the link). I guess FastTrack is another alternative to Napster. FastTrack clients include Morpheus, Grokster, KazaA(?) and Music City. I haven't had a chance to try any of these yet, but I'll let you know if I do...

RegEdit.com joins to WinGuides.com
source: Simon Clausen (of WinGuides.com)

Simon Clausen, who ran RegEdit.com (a darn good site) just sent me a message asking me to inform you that RegEdit has been added to the already massive content of WinGuides.com. For those who don't know, the Registry is what holds a large number of Windows settings and navigating the Registry can be a bit scary for newbies. That's where RegEdit.com came in.
WinGuides.com looks like a great resource, so definitely go check it out!

On a related note: I'm a BIG fan of X-Setup (by CptSiskoX) - this program is the mother of all™ tweak programs and lets you easily (and safely) change just about all of the Windows (and so registry) settings without ever touching the Registry editor.

This stuff, (WinGuides.com and X-Setup) is Tweaking 101 - If you're just getting into Tweaking, they're great places to start.

I've made the update on the links page so you can find it later too.

On an unrelated note: Wondering how to illegally download free music now that Napster's gone? Try the Gnutella / Gnotella network. There are a variety of clients available and you can illgeally share all kinds of stuff, not just music - not like I condone that sort of activity.
I'm on LimeWire right now. I was using the Gnotella client, but it started giving me trouble, so I switched to LimeWire for now...
Yeah, keep in mind that if/when Napster relaunches, it's a whore of the music industry now and so you probably won't be able to download and keep a wide variety of music, but more likely listen to (stream) songs from a limited selection for a subscription fee... just fyi.

"Sex tips for geeks" is the title of this guide. It covers stuff like asking out members of the opposite sex and relationship management.
If your geeky (read nerdy), socially inept, or (most likely) both, this article might give you some confidence builders.
Unfortunately, the author has left out some of the most important topics for geeks who try to socialize.
Things like:
So you've been pepper-sprayed
and
How to avoid those pesky restraining orders
Maybe I'll go ahead and write some of these myself.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but there just isn't much going on.
HardOCP has a new article "Tbird vs Palomino" (Athlons compared) - yes, I too suprised when I saw that HardOCP had something besides MSI on it.

In unrelated news - if you haven't seen the video for the song "Clint Eastwood" by the Gorillaz, you're missin' out. It kicks some bootay...

Celebrations for the 4th

not my fireworks program If you're anywhere near western washington for the Fourth and don't have plans: Take a pull of fireworks show here in "hammer" (Bellingham, WA). Trust me, I've had to work the past 11 fourths of July and for some reason the Port of Bellingham puts on one mean fireworks show.

I'm not even kidding. Bellingham may be a town of only 53,000 (and by that I mean 40,000) people, but I've seen the fireworks in Seattle and Japan, and I'd rather watch the displays here.

I especially like the large (12"?) shells that rattle windows, set off car alarms (jackasses) and you can feel them in your gut.

You can catch me on my parents' roof watching the... er... fireworks... yeah, that's it. I swear I'm not watching the girl next door (and by girl I mean old lady).

ps - Please don't bother to point out the incongruities of my stories, for example: where I claim to have witnessed the 4th of July fireworks in Bellingham the past 11 years, yet I also claim to have seen fireworks in Seattle. I suppose I could have been working in Seattle... yeah right.

But, if you can't make it to Bellingham, have a great 4th and enjoy the crappy fireworks display in your own town I guess .
